WGK Glass Art
WGK Glass Art, Inc. was founded by glass artist Thomas von Koch in 2001. Thomas von Koch started his career as a glassblower in Wertheim, Germany in 1982, after receiving his scientific glassblowing degree and starting his own art glass studio. Using multiple glassblowing techniques like torch-working, fusing and furnace-work, the creativity began.
In 1984 Thomas started participating in art and trade shows all over Germany and, in 1997, also in the U.S. Since his work was overwhelmingly successful in the United States, von Koch decided in 2007 to move his studio to Pennsylvania and since then, produces his artwork in his new studio in Toughkenamon along with his team. Since participating in several trade shows all over the U.S., the business quickly grew, and in 2009, the first employees joined the team.
Now, WGK Glass Art has a team of 6 glassblowers, which guarantees a huge variety of products created by combining multiple techniques of shaping and coloring the glowing glass mass.
Not only is the creation of glass sculptures one of the goals of this enterprise, but also the training of an interested audience in glassblowing. Teaching traditional German glassblowing techniques here in the U.S. is one of Thomas’ utmost concerns and on the top of his agenda of introducing German art and culture to the United States.
