Stephen Brucker Glass Art
My work concentrates on formal qualities of structures found in nature. I create three-dimensional sculptures using multiple flameworking techniques and clear borosilicate glass. These sculptures are realized by heating and manipulating glass by the utilization of bench mounted and handheld torches which produce a four thousand degrees Fahrenheit flame.
The choice to use this material in the creation of these sculptural objects signifies both the delicacy and fragility of these forms in the natural environment. Fragility, transparency, and impermanence are core conceptual topics that I explore in each of my sculptures. I am most interested in representing these natural forms and structures in the most economical way possible while pushing the physical properties of the material to its limit.
