Sheila Fernekes Design Studio
“I often compare designing my art jewelry to composing music. Inspired by dynamic rhythms and harmonic progressions, I integrate what has become my signature multi-layered bead weaving with polymer, wire, semi-precious stones, and non-traditional materials to create contemporary wearable art.”
Sheila Fernekes is a self-taught jewelry artist. She was educated in fine arts and art education at Rutgers University, with coursework in graphic design at the School of Visual Arts and Parsons School of Design. She worked as a self-employed graphic designer and public relations/marketing specialist for two decades. Returning to her art roots early in the new millennium, Sheila immersed herself in traditional Native American and African bead weaving techniques and has expanded her repertoire to incorporate polymer clay and metal in her contemporary jewelry art.
