Nick Wilson is a Baltimore-based artist whose practice explores the intersection of sound, form, and materiality. Working as Prophecy Instruments, Wilson creates sculptural electric guitars and basses that function as both high-performance tools and fine art. Wilson’s process merges a background in traditional woodworking and handtool luthiery folk arts with digital fabrication and modern technologies, arriving at an integrated perspective.

Drawing on diverse influences from disciplines such as architecture, historical instruments, graphic design, and science fiction worldbuilding, Wilson develops a vocabulary of forms through instruments that balance ergonomic performance with bold visual lines. This work incorporates a wide range of materials, including reclaimed urban hardwoods, carbon fiber, automotive coatings, traditional dyes, and engineered surfaces, resulting in pieces with distinctive textures and presence.

Alongside this studio practice, Wilson engages in educational programming throughout Maryland, teaching instrument design, craft, and the science of sound – fostering deeper connections between communities, material culture, and music.
