An Intimate Journey with Nature
Paul Joseph Stankard – Celebrating 80 Years

A Special Pop-up Display In the Museum of American Glass, Open May 17 to July 30, 2023

Image of a paperweight by Paul Joseph Stankard. The paperweight is a clear globe on a dark gray background. Inside the orb is a cluster of a variety of red, light purple, white, yellow, and blue flowers with green leaves. Nude bodies are at the bottom of the cluster and curly pieces of the same color extend towards the flowers.

Paul Joseph Stankard’s life has been a spiritual journey guided by poetry and an intimate relationship with nature. Hairy bees with transparent wings, ripe summer blueberries, and dirt-encrusted bulbs—all are personal memories preserved for future generations to contemplate.

An Intimate Journey with Nature features work from the artist’s personal collection and some of his chosen favorites from recent decades. The exhibit and excerpts from the new film, Paul J. Stankard: Master Artist, are on view in the Museum of American Glass lobby from May 17 to July 30, 2023.

Visitors can also visit the Museum’s Contemporary Gallery to see work documenting the first 20 years of Stankard’s career.
