Joan Harmon

Joan Harmon is a sculptor and installation artist currently living and working in New York City. She earned her MFA from Rutgers University and her BFA from the California College of Art. She is currently the President of Phoenix Gallery (NY) and Director of Arts Education at the GAGA Arts Center in Farnerville, NY. She has served as adjunct professor at LaGuardia College (NY) Ramapo College (NJ), New York University (Italy) and William Patterson University (NJ). Joan Harmon uses a variety of media from cast cement, fired clay, wax and mixed media and incorporates sound and light in her sculptural installations. Her work explores psychological journeys created by merging architecture, landscape and references to the human body.

“The primary technique I would like to use during my fellowship period is casting. I would cast a series of glass forms for an installation exploring the relationship of rivers to human blood vessels.”
