Greg Laplaca began working in clay in 1993 while attending Brookdale Community College, where he majored in Ceramics with a minor in Education. After Graduation Greg began working at The Craft Center in Lincroft, NJ. There he taught beginner Wheel Throwing, Advanced Wheel Throwing, Raku, and Pit Fire.
In 2000 Greg Accepted a Position as a production Potter with Rowe pottery Works in Cambridge Wis. During his tenure at Rowe, Greg refined his throwing skills dramatically, as he was both subjected to exacting standards and responsible for producing up to 1,000 pounds of pots daily.
Greg returned to the Jersey Shore in 2002 to set up his own studio, Laplaca Pottery Works, in Point Pleasant NJ. In addition, Greg also built a large wood-burning kiln which allowed him to pursue his passion for wood-fired pottery.
Citing nature as his greatest inspiration, Greg feels that his geographic location – just blocks from the ocean, and only a few miles from deep wooded areas – has had an invaluable influence on his work
