Elena Carey Ochs is a mixed-media jewelry artist based in Brooklyn, New York. Specializing in what she lovingly calls wearable stories, Elena transforms vintage images and forgotten ephemera into one-of-a-kind pieces as Folkloric Jewelry. She began her artistic journey with a passion for preserving ephemeral moments and reimagining them in tangible forms. Though largely self-taught, she refined her skills by taking jewelry design courses at FIT, Lilove, and the Sheffield School.

Working primarily with upcycled auction catalogs, classical art books, resin, and carefully selected gemstones, Elena’s process is both intuitive and deliberate. Each item is composed with a sense of wonder, reflecting her fascination with nostalgia, mythology, and the natural world. Because no two pieces are exactly alike, collectors find a sense of intimacy and connection in every design, a treasured keepsake imbued with whimsy and delight.

Elena’s work has garnered attention from publications such as Belle Armoire Magazine, where her handcrafted creations have been showcased for their innovative blend of vintage imagery and contemporary style. Her bespoke pieces can be found in shops across the USA, and she has been a twice-featured artist at the New York Historical Society’s Designing Women Market. In addition, Elena enjoys an ongoing collaboration with The Morgan Library Shop, where her pieces capture the imagination of visitors and collectors alike.

Through Folkloric Jewelry, Elena continues to explore the delicate interplay between art and adornment, storytelling and craft, always guided by an enduring love for the hidden beauty in life’s most ephemeral details.
