MC Carey (they/them) is a Baltimore-based self-taught printmaker and illustrator, exploring the intersection of nature, storytelling, and liberatory healing with a focus on linoleum prints. With a background in healing justice and community education, Carey merges their 7 years of printmaking experience with their dedication to creating a world where people and the earth have what they need to build a sustainable future. Carey works full-time in their Baltimore-based print studio called Femme Prints, creating textural and narrative-based original and limited edition linoleum block prints (and occasionally prints made in other techniques like collagraph, drypoint, and intaglio). Printmaking is a way for Carey to explore themes of justice and liberation as well as storytelling through the lens of nature. In addition to running Femme Prints, Carey co-organizes an arts collective for women, femme, and non-binary artists of color called Our Art Room Agency, participates in fine arts shows across the United States, and runs regular community printmaking workshops for the Baltimore and DMV communities. Carey’s most recent gallery shows include group showcases at the Columbia Art Center, Washington Studio School, The Peale Museum, Inkspot Press, and the Waller Gallery.
