In the 21st century Art is not created simply inside the confines and contexts of an artist’s studio. This workshop will correlate to the growing fields of art making that are done in and through the outside world. After a presentation and discussion regarding site specific modern art making, this workshop will tour the grounds of WheatonArts to find a small organic space that demands an artistic contribution. The holes and openings of various trees will determine our canvas proportions. Then after our image parameters have been defined we will return to the painting studio in order to develop an interesting image that relates, contrasts or converses with the space you have selected. Once our images have been developed or at least the seeds of our images are begun we will return to the woods in order to install and photograph the imagery. A second optional class will occur later in the day where students will explore Photoshop techniques that allow us to delve deeper into the imagery we have begun with our paintings.

All levels and abilities are welcome!
