In this one-day course on basic metalsmithing techniques, you will learn how to manipulate metal sheet using a jeweler’s saw. You will pierce out simple shapes and fabricate a layered pendant, brooch, or keychain of your own design through the use of sawing, filing, drilling, riveting, and sanding. No previous experience with metals is necessary, as this crash course on beginning metalwork will cover all that you need to know in order to create a stunning piece of wearable art. Materials will be provided, however, you should begin to brainstorm designs before you arrive at class. You are encouraged to think of simple shapes and symbols that inspire you, and come to class with a couple sketches or images printed from the internet. These ideas will be the basis for a beautifully designed object to be made in copper, brass, and nickel silver.
