Bad Cat Designs in Wood

Bad Cat Designs in Wood
I worked for 40 years in a highly technical field which, although requiring a certain amount of creativity, had no need, call, nor tolerance whatsoever for aesthetics. So, to prevent the right side of my brain from full-on revolt, my pass time was always in creating things out of wood and paint that had no functions other than to look good and provide people with reasons to smile.
I retired in 2017. During my first full week at home, I lost a pair of glasses, broke the top of the crock pot, and locked the cat in the cellar (although the cat shared partial responsibility for that one). So, when I suggested to my wife that I’d like to spend the bulk of my days out in the shop and studio, she was enthusiastically supportive. Since then, I’ve been steadily evolving my designs and sharpening my skills and creativity.
My work starts with pencil and paper designs with subject matter ranging from country memories and seasonal themes to Dios de Los Muertos and modern art, with a bit of humor thrown in. Then, starting with raw wood, I hand craft each piece, including the frames, from beginning to end. Once all the bits are final shaped and sanded, I paint each with acrylic paint, assemble the work and seal it with Water-Based Polyurethane (suitable for interior use only). The frames are finished with an oil-based stain and then sealed with several coats of hand-rubbed tung oil. Lastly, I sign and number each completed work in preparation for sending it out into the world. I hope that each one will find a good home where someone will enjoy it for a long time to come.
