A Thousand Paper Lanterns

I’m Rachael, originally from England. I received a box of art straws as a child. When I came across them 30 years later, I thought my girls might enjoy them too. What began as an annual tradition of making gifts for teachers, friends, and family has turned into A Thousand Paper Lanterns. Each unique lantern is hand-woven from paper art straws, inspired by patterns found in nature, and lit with string led lights. As a high school math teacher, a lot of my energy is spent helping students overcome their dislike for mathematics. Weaving lanterns gives me an opportunity to express some of the beauty of mathematics, while bringing a little fairy-light magic to others.
