Katey Murphy

Born and raised in the Philadelphia area, Katey Murphy received her BFA from Temple University (2014) and her MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University (2018). She started working with glass in 2009 and has taught the material to students ranging in age from middle school to degree-seeking university students across the east coast at institutions such as Virginia Commonwealth University, Old Dominion University, and the Visual Art Center of Richmond.

While at the Chrysler Museum Glass Studio, Murphy facilitated and curated exhibitions in Vestibule 102, an exhibition space that included a conscious effort to exhibit artists from underserved communities and offer a platform for diverse voices. From 2021 to 2022, She served as the Chair of the NEON (New Energy of Norfolk) District’s Public Art Committee, focusing on highlighting contemporary artists in Norfolk’s first arts district through murals, public art installations, and group exhibitions.
