“The act of melting glass in fire is both mesmerizing and meditative. It satisfies my deep need to create while forcing me to live in the moment – nothing exists outside of the flame and the bead as each one reveals its own unique design.”
Glass jewelry artist Liz Mitchell is motivated by the colors, simplicity, and patterns found in nature. While her craftsmanship provides structure, the colors and fluid nature of hot glass inspires Liz to play – following each bead’s design where it takes her. Creating jewelry was a natural evolution – her purpose is to enhance each woman’s natural beauty with her designs. Liz Mitchell begins each bead by melting a glass rod in a 2000 degree flame. While silver foil and crushed glass are often used, she plunges a cold, thin glass rod into the hot glass, twisting it to create her signature swirls. Liz’s jewelry designs work in harmony with her beads. She uses sterling and Argentium silver, pearls, and natural elements to complete each piece.
