As a youth, Byron T. Gaylord first experienced the ancient art of glass blowing through a community-based partnership between schools and businesses. It was due to this partnership’s mission of opening doors to under-represented communities and to the meticulous support of dedicated mentors that he has been able to pursue his passion. As a result, Byron is keen on “paying it forward” and combines art and education with an emphasis on mindfulness and gratitude.

Byron produces vintage style functional glassware and seasonal art while teaching and mentoring Appalachian youth. He has studied for several years at Pilchuck Glass School, attended Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, and honed his skills at a variety of glass studios on the east coast and was selected by Crafting the Future, to be an Artist in Residence at Penland School of Crafts. By his own journey, Byron’s next goal is to bring glass blowing to undiscovered artists through a traveling hot shop.
