Education and Artist Services Internship

Description: WheatonArts is a non-profit arts organization whose mission is to engage artists and audiences in an evolving exploration of creativity. The Education and Artist Services Intern will be introduced to the functions of a nonprofit arts organization and will have the opportunity to learn about and gain work experience in a dynamic regional arts organization. The intern will work closely with the Associate Director and will play a key role in supporting and implementing educational and artist residency programs for our constituencies. This is an unpaid internship. This internship offers the potential of college credit hours, future referrals and letters of recommendation upon completion.

Dates: April – August; September – December

Hours: 10-15 hours/week; flexible between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday (Occasional weekend event participation as requested)

Reports to: Director of Education and Artist Services

General Responsibilities:

  • Assist with instructing on site art lessons for schools and the general public as well as any required preparation.
  • Assist with maintaining on site, self-guided creativity programs such as our Creation Stations, Letterboxing scavenger hunt, and pop-up family art activities.
  • Assist with the revision, expansion, and organization of our programs’ curriculum materials as they pertain to the Core Curriculum Content Standards and the Common Core Standards.
  • Photograph artists working in our studios for use in online and printed promotions.
  • Assist in day-to-day operations of the department, including communication with artists, classes/workshops registrants, and other administrative tasks as needed.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Experience working with children in an educational setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Publisher.
  • Interest in the nonprofit sector, the arts, education, and community outreach preferred.
  • Digital photography
  • Experience with or willingness to learn Dropbox and Google Drive as an internal communication tool
