I am a teaching artist with a background in sculpture, a BA from Rutgers, and a 30 year focus on pottery. I teach my craft to all ages, from school children, adults in art centers, students on the college level to senior citizens. Teaching is an integral part of my work as an artist. It helps me to redefine and articulate my aesthetics which can influence the evolution of my clay pieces.
My functional pottery is stoneware with layered glazes fired in an electric kiln. Most of it is wheel thrown, while some forms are hand built from slabs of clay. My surfaces and imagery reflect the natural world outside my studio on the Rancocas Creek in Burlington County, NJ. Gardens, wild plant-life and creatures living on the water’s edge provide inspiration for impressed texture, sculpted elements and color palette.
