WheatonArts celebrates the 2016 Spring Reopening with PAWS For Art a free community event that brings pet owners and their dogs for a day of art and fun. Pet food donations for CCSPCA are welcome.
PAWS for Arts highlights include:

■ Dog Activities such as Paw Prints, Bobbing for Tennis Balls, and Pumpkin Pie, Photo Booth
■ Search and Rescue Demonstrations
■ Agility Course
■ Animal Themed Glassmaking Demonstrations in the Glass Studio at 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
■ Pet Themed Kids’ Hands-On Activities 11 – 3

Food vendors include Top Shelf Mobile Cuisine, 3 Guys Rolling Pies, Myro Dogs

WheatonBarks Dog Show at 2 p.m. Trophies will be awarded in both Adult and Children’s classes in each of the following categories: Best Pet Costume, Macho Mutt, Petite Pup, Prettiest Pooch, Pet and Owner Look-Alike, Tons of Fun, and Senior Pet (adults only). “Top Show Dog” awards will be Best in Show, Top Dog and Sportsmanship. Winners of these three categories will each receive a glass, dog-faced vessel created by WheatonArts Glass Studio artists. Additional trophies will be stoneware pet bowls handcrafted by Erika Pugh, WheatonArts resident associate artist.
For pet safety all dogs will be required to be on a short, no longer than four-foot, lead. No retractable leashes. Dogs will be allowed in the Artists Studios. The Cumberland County SPCA will provide volunteers as dog sitters so dog owners may visit the Museum of American Glass and the Museum Stores. Water stations will be located throughout the grounds.
Clay Sculpture
Play with clay and create your own animal-inspired mini-sculpture. Using natural air-dry earth clay, kids can create a real or imaginary animal. Become inspired by images of famous animal sculptures created by artists such as Francois Pompon and Alberto Giacometti. Small beads will be available to create a multi-media sculpture!
Paper Snakes
Slithery, slippery, scaly, snakes! Create your own friendly, colorful version of this amazing reptile using construction paper and paper towel rolls. How long will your snake be? What color will it be? Your imagination is the limit!
Decorate the Dog House!
Join together in a fun, collaborative art and play activity! Three larger-than-life-sized cardboard dog houses will be available for kids and families to decorate using colored pencils, markers, crayons, and construction paper.
Paper Bag Puppets
Create a cast of animal characters! This is a great family activity. Each family member is encouraged to create his or her own character. Afterwards, put on a family puppet show! Let your imagination run wild and create imaginary creatures or people!
