Sheila Fernekes Design Studio
Using ancient techniques, Sheila Fernekes interweaves beads of glass, hand formed polymer, steel wire and semi-precious stones to create contemporary jewelry. Her background as a graphic designer and illustrator is seen in her striking combinations of color, texture, and pattern inspired by Impressionist painting and Bauhaus design. Many of her materials have been collected during her extensive travels to Scandinavia, Holland, Russia, Italy, Spain, Greece, Canada, Mexico, the American Southwest and the Pacific Northwest.
Sheila creates her work in her home studio in Flemington, New Jersey and exhibits and sells her work primarily in juried shows. She holds state master status in the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and was awarded the Guild’s 2014 Benchmark of Excellence Award for Unique Voice. She served twice on the PA Guild state master status jury, and the last three years as floor juror for the Guild’s Philadelphia Rittenhouse shows. She also served twice on the jury for the Morristown New Jersey CraftMarket. In May 2015 and again in May 2016, Sheila was awarded First Place for Jewelry at the Bruce Museum Fine Craft Fest.
