MILLVILLE, NJ – This holiday season visitors to WheatonArts will experience a variety of special exhibits and programs and expanded hours in the museum stores.
The museum stores will be open seven days a week from November 26 through December 31, from10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The General Store, Christmas Shop, Arthur Gorham Paperweight Shop, The Gallery of FineCraft and Brownstone Emporium and Boutique offer an assortment of handcrafted gifts. Services include custom gifts, corporate awards, glass etching, gift cards and certificates, free gift boxes and a reduced sales tax.
The Museum of American Glass lobby area will be decorated with a traditional Christmas tree, a contemporary tree and a Twelve Days of Christmas themed tree from November 26 through January 2, 2011.
Holiday exhibits and programs include:
■ "The Handcrafted Gift" Exhibit and Sale in The Gallery of Fine Craft. Through December 24, 2010. The exhibit features handcrafted ornaments, made with a variety of materials and techniques, metal wall sculptures, leather, stained glass, jewelry, pottery, and contemporary glass.
■ "Curator's Choice" exhibit in the Museum of American Glass. Through March 13, 2011. Over 100 pieces from the Jones Museum of Glass and Ceramics and the private collection of Dorothy-Lee Jones.
■ Holiday Big Glass Blast -World’s Largest Ornament. November
26, 27, and 28. Artist Deborah Czeresko and her team attempt to create the
world’s largest glass ornament in the Glass Studio.
■ Annual Holiday Studio
Sale: Glass and Pottery. November 26, 27
and 28 in the Event Center. WheatonArts prototypes,
seconds and overstocks, studio glass by Melanie Guernsey and David Leppla, and
a wide selection of pottery by WheatonArts artist, Terry Plasket, at discounts
of 30 to 70 percent. Hours: November 26, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.;
November 27, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and November 28, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. WheatonArts
Members Preview Reception is November 26 at 9:30 a.m. Quantities are limited. Free
admission to attend the Studio Sale only.
■ D/Zine Studio – Design A
Glass Ornament. Through
December 17. Ages 5 to 17. Submit a design by December 17. Winning designs will
be created by the WheatonArts artists on December 19.
■ Annual Holiday Studio Sale: Glass and Pottery. December 4 (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and December 5 (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) in the Event Center. WheatonArts prototypes, seconds and overstocks, studio glass by Melanie Guernsey and David Leppla, and a wide selection of pottery by WheatonArts artist, Terry Plasket, at discounts of 30 to 70 percent. ■ Holiday Glass Traditions. December 4, 5 and 12. WheatonArts artists create holiday themed pieces in the Glass Studio.■ D/Zine Studio – Design A Glass Ornament Fabrication. December 19 –The winning designs are created by the WheatonArts artists. Each prize winner will receive their ornament.
WheatonArts is open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., through January 2, 2011. Closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. It is free to shop and stroll. An admission ticket is required to visit the Museum of American Glass, Down Jersey Folklife Center, and artist demonstrations in the Glass, Ceramic and Woodcarving Studios. Adults $10.00, Senior Adults $9.00 and Students $7.00. Children five and under are free. “Family Fun Days Every Sunday” presented by PNC Arts Alive. Every Sunday through December 26, 2010, all children 17 and under are admitted free.
