MILLVILLE, NJ – Each year the Festival of Fine Craft at WheatonArts draws thousands of visitors from the Mid-Atlantic region. This year’s event, October 2 and 3, offers visitors exposure to works of art from
125 juried artists in the Event Center, in a large tent and throughout the grounds. There are presentations of studio art glass, stained glass, creative jewelry designs, unusual metal sculptures, innovative wearables and accessories, intricate baskets, sculptural and functional clay pieces, woodcarvings and turned vessels, handcrafted furniture, and two-dimensional art and photography.
Featured outdoor artist demonstrations include weaving, woodturning, coin jewelry, wood, flameworking, basket making, chair caning, painting on silk, and mold making.
Family activities take place throughout the day. They include: Create A Scarecrow With Your Family; Children’s Crafts; Beginner Basket Making (nominal fee applies); Create A Mural (children of all ages); Facepainting; and Blow A Glass Bubble with the guidance of WheatonArts’ Glass Studio artists. Visitors will be entertained both days by a strolling magician and PackageGoods Orchestra, a music group from Galloway Township, NJ.
Chamroeun Yin will present, “Cambodian Music and Dance” on Sunday only from 1:30 p.m. to 3p.m. This is a performance-demonstration of Cambodian court dances plus a presentation about the music accompanying them. The performance will also include a Cha Banchoh (chabunchos) set consisting of slow, fast and ending movements. The musical recordings include various pieces performed by traditional Khmer orchestras.
In the Glass Studio each day, WheatonArts artists will create large glass pumpkins during the “Pumpkin Blow.” Glass pumpkins of all shapes, sizes and colors will be available for purchase outside the Glass Studio in a special “patch.” Plus, children of all ages can participate in the “D/Zine A Glass Ornament” competition.
Kettle corn, Italian specialties, fresh fruits, barbeque, seafood and grilled items will be offered in the food and refreshment area each day.
Hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The event is included in the price of admission to WheatonArts. Saturday admission: $10.00 Adults, $9.00 Senior Adults and $7.00 Students. Children five and under are free. Sunday admission: $10.00 Adults, $9.00 Senior Adults and all children 17 and under are admitted free.
