New "April" Workshops and Classes

WHEATONARTS ANNOUNCES NEW SERIES OF SPRING AND SUMMER WORKSHOPS AND CLASSES
MILLVILLE,
NJ – Beginning in
April and continuing through August, WheatonArts is offering a variety of workshops that will engage students of all
ages and levels of expertise in arts and culture. Students will have
opportunities to explore various art forms, aesthetics and cultures while
participating with professional teaching artists in an interactive creative
experience. All classes take place at WheatonArts. Offerings include Adult
Studio Weekly Classes, Intensive Classes and Workshops, Fire and Forms: Summer
Sampler, an 8-part new Summer Series for teens and young adults, and the Family
Fun Workshop Series.
The “April” workshops are:
■ Fusing I: Glass Jewelry. April
14, 21 and 28. 6:30 p.m.
to 9:30 p.m. Ages 16 and above. Members $225 / Non-Members $250. Students will
create colorful fused glass jewelry in this beginner’s class. Beginning with an
explanation of tools, cutting and glass compatibility and continuing through to
kiln preparation, fusing and annealing. Later sessions will center on the
coldworking and assembly of finished jewelry. No previous experience required.
All materials and tools are included. Instructor: Deb DiMarco.
■ Blowing I: Beginning Glass Blowing. April 14,
21 and 28. 6:30 p.m. to
9:30 p.m. Ages 16 and above. Members $295 / Non-Members $320. Designed for the
beginning glassblower, this class will offer students instruction on the
fundamentals of working and forming molten glass into basic shapes such as
cups, bowls, plates and vases. Students will also become familiar with
equipment and movement in the hot shop, and how to work with a partner. No
experience necessary. Instructor: Karin
Kozlowski and WheatonArts staff.
■ Fusing
II: Fantasy Face Mask. April 15 and 22. 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Ages 16 and
above. Members $225 / Non-Members $250. Students will create a colorful, fused
glass mask suitable for wear or display. Each mask will be a unique, exciting
and individual work of art. No previous experience required. All materials and
tools are included. Instructor: Deb DiMarco.
■ Blowing
II: Level Two Glass Blowing. April 15, 22 and 29. 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Ages 16 and
above. Members $295 / Non-Members $320. This is a class designed for those
students who have been initiated into the hot glass studio through one of the
beginning classes and would like to further develop their skills to the next
level. This five-session class includes four hot shop sessions and one coldworking
session. Instructor:

staff.
■ Beginning Stained Glass: Geometric Suncatchers.
April 6, 13 and 20. 6
p.m. to 8 p.m. Ages 16 and above. Members $65 / Non-Members $75. Learn how to
create your own stained class projects using the copper foil technique.
Students will learn about the history of stained glass, how to cut stained
glass, and basic design techniques. No prior experience necessary. All
materials and use of tools included. Instructor: Janice Olivio.
■ Cambodian Beadwork On Fabric. April 25.
2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Ages
10 and above. Members $30 / Non-Members $35. Cambodian traditional beadwork is
a form of bead embroidery on fabric used by the artist when making Cambodian
traditional wedding and dance costumes. Participants will create flower and
diamond designs with gold glass beads and sequins on a small multi-purpose
purse. Students will learn about the history and cultural significance of
Cambodian costume. This class is the first in a series of workshops offered in
conjunction with the Down Jersey Folklife Center exhibition, “Cambodian Traditions: Wedding and Court
Dances.” All materials included. Instructor:
Chamroeun Yin.
Advanced registration is required for all workshops. Walk-ins are welcome

Payment can be made with a credit card or a check payable to WheatonArts. Register online at www.wheatonarts.org. The registration deadline
is ten days prior to the workshop/class. Refunds will be given up to one week prior to the beginning of
the workshop/class. After this time the workshop fee is non-refundable.
WheatonArts reserves the right to cancel a workshop/class due to minimal
enrollment. If cancellation occurs, WheatonArts will refund all workshop fees.

WheatonArts
is open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., April through December.
Closed Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Open
Memorial Day, July 4 and Labor Day. Admission includes: Museum of American
Glass; Glass, Ceramic and Woodworking Studios; Down Jersey Folklife Center; and
the museum stores. It is free to shop and stroll except during outdoor special
events.
