wheatonARTS returns to six-day operating schedule ON APRIL
MILLVILLE, NJ –WheatonArts will resume its six-day
operating schedule on April 1. The arts organization will be open Tuesday
through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., through December 31.
WheatonArts
is home to the Museum of American Glass, with the most comprehensive collection of American
glass in the country, the Creative Glass Center of America, a fellowship program
for international artists working in glass, and the Down Jersey Folklife Center
which showcases the various ethnic and occupational groups that define the
region through changing exhibits and displays. The visitor experience also includes
artist demonstrations in glass, ceramics, flameworking and woodcarving. The award
winning museum stores feature one-of-a-kind, handcrafted gifts in all media. The
“Make Your Own” programs (fee based and appointments required) provide visitors
an opportunity to create a paperweight, blow a bowl or vase form and make beads.
In addition, WheatonArts presents special exhibitions in the Museum of American
Glass, Down Jersey Folklife Center and Gallery of Fine Craft throughout the
year.
Exhibitions:
■ Through
January 3, 2010 - “Treasures From The Collection:
Museum of American Glass.” The
exhibition celebrates 36 years of collecting and focuses on the most
significant 125 pieces in the collection. The examples range from a glass jar
attributed to the first successful glass factory in America to pieces of
contemporary studio glass. The treasures were chosen not only for their
appearance and craftsmanship but also for their historical importance in
telling the story of glass manufacture in the U.S.
■ March
28 – April 19: “Contemporary Flamework” in The Gallery of Fine Craft. The exhibit
is presented in conjunction with the International Flameworking Conference at Salem
Community College in Carneys Point, NJ, March 20 – 22. The Gallery annually
showcases work by the conference’s artists in an exhibit at the event followed
by a presentation of their work in an exhibit at WheatonArts. Featured artist
is
Shane Fero.
■ April
25 – May 31: “Paul Stankard and Stankard Studio” in
The Gallery of Fine Craft. In May,
Paul Stankard celebrates a 37 year association with WheatonArts. With this
exhibit he unveils his most recent work in addition to early work from the
1970s and 1980s. Stankard Studio is comprised of his three daughters,
Katherine Stankard Campbell, Pauline Stankard Iacovino and Christine Stankard
Kressley.
■ May
8 – October 4: “Weaving Cultural Heritage: Romanian Rugs
From Oltenia, Maramures and Moldova Regions” in the Down Jersey Folklife Center. The exhibition features a private
collection of Romanian traditional rugs hand-woven by village artists in
Romania who have preserved and still practice not only old techniques of
weaving, but also traditional ways of preparing dyes from natural materials.

and Linda J. Hahn. Light hors d’oeuvres will be offered.

11 – Design A Glass Rabbit Demonstration. The
winning designs will be created by the WheatonArts artists in the Glass Studio
at 2 p.m.

11 – “Peep” Dipping in Chocolate in the
General Store. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free admission.

11 – Have Your Picture Taken With The Spring Bunny.

25 – Crescent Moon Trunk Show in Brownstone
Emporium. Spring line by
artist/designer Gretchen Hulse from Moorestown, NJ. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
■ May 2
– Eco-Fair: Green Living For Your Home
and Garden. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free
and open to the public. Receive a composter for only $35.00 (Limited quantities. One
per family). Meet Jane Kirkland, award-winning author of the “Take A Walk®
Books.” Educators, related businesses and organizations will provide
information, resources, products and solutions for people to live healthier, eco-friendly
lives. The day features kids’ crafts, entertainment, food and refreshments. Presented
in partnership with the Cumberland County Improvement Authority.
■ May 9
– Paul Stankard Demonstration and “Paul
Stankard and Stankard Studio” Opening Reception. Demonstration at 1:30 p.m.
in the Glass Studio. Reception in The Gallery of Fine Craft from 4 p.m. to 7
p.m. Light refreshments will be offered.

Admission: Adults $10.00, $9.00 Senior Adults and $7.00 Students. Children five
and under are free. Free to shop and stroll except during outdoor special
events.
Special Offers: $20.00 Family Rate every Sunday in April (up to two adults and all
children under 17 years old). WheatonArts is offering a ten percent discount on all new and renewed memberships in April.
