WHEATONARTS’ FESTIVAL OF FINE CRAFT ONE OF NORTH AMERICA’S 100 BEST EVENTS FOR 2008

MILLVILLE, NJ – In September 2007 an elite tourism industry selection committee of the American Bus Association (ABA) designated The Festival of Fine Craft at Wheaton Arts and Cultural Center as one of the “Top 100 Events in North America for 2008.” Inclusion in the Top 100 list, published as a supplement to the September/October issue of Destinations Magazine, indicates that the Festival of Fine Craft offers excellent entertainment value to both tour groups and individual travelers from around the world.

Each year the Festival of Fine Craft draws thousands of visitors from the Mid-Atlantic region. The show offers visitors exposure to works of art from over 140 juried artists in the Event Center, outdoors in a large tent and throughout the wooded grounds. There are presentations of studio art glass, stained glass, creative jewelry designs, unusual metal sculptures, innovative wearables and accessories, intricate baskets, sculptural and functional clay pieces, woodcarvings and turned vessels, handcrafted furniture, and two-dimensional art and photography.

Featured outdoor artist demonstrations are: Pauletta Berger, Handwovens By Pauletta (weaving),    Vineland, NJ; Robert Broschart (woodturning), Petersburg, NJ; Allan Feinberg, Art In Coin (coin jewelry), Highland Park, NJ; David Field, Field Musical Instruments (wood), West Collingswood, NJ; Carlisle School of Glass Art (flameworking), Millville, NJ; Mary May (basket making), Forked River, NJ; Doug Starry,  Starry's Woodshop (chair caning), Gettysburg, PA; Alex Alessi and Carmel Verrastro, Alessi & Verrastro Painted Silk (painting on silk), Leeds Point, NJ; and Jim Sharpless (mold making), Millville, NJ.

Kettle corn, Italian specialties, fresh fruits, barbeque, seafood and grilled items will be offered in the food and refreshment area each day.

Family activities take place throughout the day. They include: Create A Scarecrow With Your Family; Children’s Crafts; Beginner Basket Making (nominal fee applies); Create A Mural (children of all ages); Facepainting; and Blow A Glass Bubble with the guidance of WheatonArts’ Glass Studio artists. A strolling magician and music by PackageGoods Orchestra will entertain visitors both days.

Hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The event is included in the price of admission to WheatonArts. Admission is $10.00 Adults, $9.00 Senior Adults and $7.00 Students. Children five and under are free. Festival Special: Ticket good for both days with “Tomorrow Pass” which is available upon request. Free parking.
