wheaton arts and cultural center PRESENTS SPECIAL HOLIDAY EXHIBITS AND PROGRAMS

MILLVILLE, NJ – Wheaton Arts and Cultural Center will present a variety of special holiday exhibits and programs in November and December.

The museum stores will be open seven days a week through December 31, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The General Store, Christmas Shop, Arthur Gorham Paperweight Shop, Gallery of Fine Craft and Brownstone Emporium offer an assortment of handmade crafts, personal service, a knowledgeable staff, free boxes and bows, and member discounts. Gift cards and certificates are also available.

Current Exhibits

"The Handcrafted Gift: 11th Annual Holiday Exhibit," through December 24 in the Gallery of Fine Craft. The show presents unique, finely crafted gifts and treasures for everyday living.

 “The Christmas Tree” in the Museum of American Glass. Through December 30, 2007.

“Symbols and Colors of Life: Beadwork Traditions” in the Down Jersey Folklife Center. Through December 30, 2007.

“Celebrating Connections: Contemporary Glass By Mid-Atlantic Artists” in the Museum of American Glass. Through January 6, 2008.

Holiday Programs

November 23 through December 23 - Ornament Design Competition designed for adults as well as children. All of the designs will be on display in the Glass Studio. The WheatonArts artists will create the winning designs the following week. First prize is WheatonArts glass valued at $500; second prize WheatonArts glass valued at $300; and third prize WheatonArts glass valued at $200. Each prize winner will receive their ornament. In addition, the studio artists will create holiday ornaments and icicles every Saturday and Sunday except during the daily 11 a.m., 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. narrated shows.

 November 23, 24 and 25 – Holiday Studio Sale in the Event Center. WheatonArts prototypes, seconds and overstocks, studio glass by Melanie Guernsey and David Leppla, and a wide selection of pottery by WheatonArts artist, Terry Plasket, at discounts of 30 to 70 percent. Hours: November 23, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; November 24, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and November 25, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors receive a free gift with a purchase of $25.00 or more. Quantities are limited. No admission ticket is required to attend the Studio Sale only.

 November 24 - World renowned artist, Paul Stankard, will sign his new autobiography, “No Green Berries or Leaves – The Creative Journey Of An Artist In Glass,” in the Gallery of Fine Craft from Noon to 2 p.m. Free and open to the public. Stankard’s book can be ordered by calling The Gallery of Fine Craft at extension 155.

 December 1 (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and December 2 (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) - Holiday Studio Sale in the Event Center.

 December 1 and 2 - Artist Deborah Czeresko, a former Creative Glass Center of America Fellow, and her team return to WheatonArts to attempt to create the World’s Largest Glass Ornament in the Glass Studio. 

December 8 – Family Participate Day. Registration begins at 9:45 a.m. Class sizes are limited. The workshops for parents and children age 7 and up are Monoprints, Tole Painting, Beadmaking With Polymer Clay and Découpage A Trinket Box. The “Open” activities for all age groups (no registration required) are Macramé Bracelets, Hanukkah Crafts, Blow A Glass Bubble and Trim A Tree or Paint A Mural. The workshops are included in the price of admission to WheatonArts.

December 9Quilted Ornaments in the Museum of American Glass from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. This activity is included in the price of admission.

December 15Pinecones and Birdseed in the Museum of American Glass from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. This activity is included in the price of admission.

December 16Shells, Glitter and Glue in the Museum of American Glass from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. This activity is included in the price of admission.

It is free to shop and stroll. Admission: Adults $10.00, Senior Adults $9.00 and Students $7.00. Children five and under are free. Visitors to WheatonArts experience the Museum of American Glass, Down Jersey Folklife Center, artist demonstrations in the Glass, Ceramics, Flameworking and Woodcarving Studios, and museum stores.

Hours: Open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through December 30. Closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. In January, February and March, WheatonArts is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with reduced admission.
