WHEATONARTS PRESENTS “FAMILY PARTICIPATE DAY” DECEMBER 8

MILLVILLE, NJ – WheatonArts presents “Family Participate Day” for parents and children on December 8. The creative hands-on activities offered throughout the day are included in the price of admission. Space is limited and some age limits apply. Registration begins at 9:45 a.m. Workshops begin at 10:30 a.m.

Open activities (no registration required):

Macramé Bracelets. All ages. 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Macramé is the ancient art of decorative knotting without using needles or hooks.

Hanukkah Crafts. All ages. 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Blow A Glass Bubble. Ages 6 and up. 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Trim Our Tree or Paint A Mural. All ages. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Workshops for parents and children age 7 and up:

Beadmaking With Polymer Clay. 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and Noon to 1 p.m. Polymer clay as an art medium is relatively new. Many of the techniques are borrowed from traditional uses of other materials, such as ceramics, glass (millefiore), and paper.

Découpage A Trinket Box. 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Découpage, derived from the French word découper, meaning to cut out, is the creative art of assembling, pasting and varnishing paper cutouts for decorating objects. The découpage artist is limited only by his or her imagination.

Monoprinting. 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monoprinting is the process of creating individual prints using inks or paint. It is a simple, spontaneous introduction to printmaking and a chance to produce your own original fish print.

Tole Painting. 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tole Painting is the folk art of decorative painting on tin and wooden utensils, objects and furniture. The craft began in 18th century New England and continued to be practiced among Pennsylvania’s German immigrants.

Admission: Adults $10.00, Senior Adults $9.00 and Students $7.00. Children five and under are free. Visitors to WheatonArts experience the Museum of American Glass, Down Jersey Folklife Center, artist demonstrations in the Glass, Ceramics, Flameworking and Woodcarving Studios, and museum stores.

Hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through December 30. Closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and

New Year’s Day. The museum stores will be open seven days a week from November 23 through December 31.
