“QUILTS IN THE VILLAGE” AT WHEATON VILLAGE LARGEST JUDGED QUILT SHOW IN SOUTH JERSEY

MILLVILLE, NJ – Wheaton Village’s biennial event, “Quilts in the Village” Quilt Show, March 18 and 19, features over 250 examples of quilters art, traditional bed quilts and contemporary wall hangings.

Presented by The Garden Patch Quilters (National Quilting Association Chapter 541), the show is the largest judged quilt show in South Jersey.

Visitors to the Event Center will see an “Olde Tyme Quilting Bee,” Junior Division quilts, judged quilts, contemporary quilts, a vendor mall, and boutique table. Door prizes will be drawn every hour. Quilting demonstrations will take place every hour from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on March 18, and noon to 4 p.m. on March 19. Also, in celebration of their 20th year, the group will present a special founding members exhibit.

Awards will be presented in nine categories including the Junior Division. Children up to 16 years old are encouraged to enter quilts. All Junior Division entries receive a ribbon. Awards include first, second and third in each category, “Judge’s Choice” and “Viewer’s Choice.” The “Best in Show” award is a one-of-a-kind, blown glass trophy created by Wheaton Village resident artist Don Friel.

Show judge, Stacey Koehler, is a National Quilting Association certified judge, teacher and quilt designer. Koehler’s judging opportunities have included “Quilts on the Bay” in Annapolis, MD, and the 36th Annual NQA Quilt Show in Columbus, OH. She has lectured at several shows and guilds. Her patterns have been published in Quiltmaker Magazine.

Merry May will offer verbal quilt identifications in the Museum of American Glass lobby each day from 1 to 3 p.m. The cost is $5.00 per identification. May, a Tuckahoe, NJ, resident, is a noted historian, quilter, lecturer and teacher. In addition to full-size quilts, she creates small-scale works on commission and designs her own patterns. She has invented a new product called, “Gridded Geese.”

Show hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The Museum of American Glass, Glass Studio in the T. C. Wheaton Glass Factory, Down Jersey Folklife Center, and museum stores are included with the price of admission. Food and refreshments are available in the Event Center.
