WHEATONARTS WELCOMES NEW CREATIVE GLASS
CENTER OF AMERICA FELLOWS
MILLVILLE, NJ – The Creative Glass Center of
America at WheatonArts welcomes new fellows Deborah Czeresko from New York, NY, and Joe
Grant III from Richmond, VA. They arrive August 28 for a six-week
session. This program allows emerging and mid-career artists to develop and
refine techniques towards new or expanded work. They have unrestricted access
to the Glass Studio in the T. C. Wheaton Glass Factory and materials for
creating blown, cast and kiln-formed glass.
Czeresko
has been a glass artist since 1987, spending most of her time living and
working in New York City. After completing her B.A. in
psychology at Rutgers
University, she began
working in glass, focusing on Venetian techniques and studying with experienced
artists including William Gudenrath, Lino Tagliapietra, Pino Signoretto, Dino
Rosin, and Elio Quarissa. She received her M.F.A. from Tulane
University and has studied at Pilchuck Glass School,
Appalachian Center for Craft and Bild-werk Frauenau. She also received a
fellowship from Metropolitan Contemporary Glass.
Her current
philosophy combines two basic points: everything has an essential, inescapable nature;
and, balance equals harmony. Using this inspiration, she makes work that is
directly influenced by the material. Czeresko has exhibited in New York and Louisiana.
Her work can be seen in the permanent collections of the Glasmuseum Ebeltoft in
Denmark and the Frauenau
Glasmuseum in West Germany.
She has been featured in Interior Design,
Dwell Magazine, House and Garden
and Glass Magazine.
Grant
received his B.F.A. at the University
of Illinois in 2001 and then moved
east to work in several sculptural glass studios in Connecticut
and Rhode Island.
He recently earned his M.F.A. from Virginia
Commonwealth University.
Grant has
exhibited in Illinois, Kentucky,
California and Virginia and has received scholarships to attend Pilchuck Glass
School and Haystack
Mountain School of Crafts. He has returned as a teaching assistant to both
schools, in addition to the University
of Illinois, Pittsburgh Glass
Center and Appalachian
School of Crafts.
The
Fellows will present a slide show of their work followed by a hot glass demonstration
in the Glass
Studio, September 8, at 7 p.m. Admission is free for the general public. Light
refreshments will be available. However, the Fellows can be seen working in the
Glass Studio throughout their session.
Since
1983, the CGCA has awarded 275 fellowships to artists from across the world.
Today the program remains the only one of its kind in the U.S. providing
emerging and mid-career artists unrestricted access to the facilities and
materials necessary for blown, cast and kilnformed glass.
