THE DOWN JERSEY FOLKLIFE CENTER AT
WHEATON
VILLAGE
PRESENTS AN EVENING
WITH ENGLISH FOLK SINGER BRAM TAYLOR

MILLVILLE, NJThe Down Jersey Folklife Center at Wheaton Village will present, “An Evening With English Folk Singer Bram Taylor,” March 10.

Taylor is an entertaining artist with a distinctive voice and relaxed stage presence who gives an evening "Taylored" to suit his audience. He calls on a large repertoire of traditional songs, together with contemporary and humorous material, performed on acoustic guitar, duet concertina, or unaccompanied.

With a wealth of experience behind him, he has established a fine reputation. He has his audiences singing, laughing from his infectious sense of humor, and occasionally, shedding a tear or two from some of the poignant songs he loves to sing.

Taylor appeared on the BBC television program, Chatterbox, in 1975 and later released his first recording, The Haymakers, which was well received by his growing audience. It well represented Taylor’s clear and strong vocal style. He continued to delight folk club audiences throughout the country and in 1984 he signed with Fellside Records. His first release, Bide A While, well reflected his largely traditional repertoire and it was very well received by the music press.

Taylor describes himself as a collector and interpreter of songs and his growing interest in contemporary material was reflected in his next release Dreams And Songs To Sing. It received the 1987 British Music Retailers award for excellence in the Folk and Country category. Taylormade released in 1990 confirmed his ability to record contemporary songs and provide a traditional blend; an ability that his folk venue audiences had already come to appreciate. His most popular recording, Further Horizons, was released in 1993. In 1996, following the success of Further Horizons, Taylor was asked to perform in the U.S.

The album, Pick of the Grinner, recorded and released in 1997, included the introduction of alto

sax on selected tracks. For his next recording, Fragile Peace, in 2001, Taylor enlisted support from a new selection of talented musicians including Alistair McCulloch - Fiddle, Serge Gorlin – Alto Sax, Emily Slade- Piano, Mike France - Fretless Bass, and featuring the backup vocals of his good friend, Valerie Vaughn, a popular folk singer from Tuckerton, NJ. The Night Is Young was released in 2004.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and will take place in the Event Center lobby area. Admission is $10.00 for adults. No admission charge for children 12 and under.
