CAITHNESS GLASS SIGNING EVENT
MILLVILLE, NJ - The Arthur Gorham Paperweight Shop at Wheaton Village will host a Caithness Glass Signing Event, November 12, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
For over 40 years the Caithness Glass designers and glassmakers have woven the dramatic and muted colors of the Scottish landscape into their designs. From the vibrant blue of the Scottish lochs to the purple of the heather clad moors and the smokey grey of the burning peat, the use of color in glass is synonymous with Caithness.Helen MacDonald,
Caithness glass designer and resident historian, will personally sign
the exclusive
signing piece, a paperweight called In A Spin, and all Caithness
purchases. Also, Caithness artist, Linda Campbell, will demonstrate
lampwork and encasement techniques in the Glass Studio.
MacDonald’s designs are popular with
collectors and she is particularly well known for her Biblical
series of paperweights and her floral designs. In 2003, she was appointed
lead designer at Caithness Glass and is therefore afforded more time to
extend her skills and give expression to creativity in new dimensions. Her
designs are widely admired and her personal appearances draw dedicated
collectors as well as those who are new to the Caithness product
range.
Campbell’s first exclusive
design, Strawberry Teas, was issued in 2001. Following the success of this
first design, she has gone on to create lampwork paperweights with a
variety of themes. For her new collection, launched in February 2005,
Campbell was inspired by the beautiful flowers and plants of her native
Scotland to create three “Highland” paperweights. In addition to designing
traditional lampwork paperweights she has also turned her expertise to
designing more modern pieces. New for Autumn/Winter 2005 is a set of three
paperweights entitled Captivation. The design uses glass canes held in a
clear glass cylinder to create a simple, clean modern look. She is also a
regular contributor to the annual Scottish Glass Society Exhibition,
submitting unique one-off designs.
