Paul Grecian – Photography
I am a full-time artist working in the medium of photography. The elements within my images are usually inspired by nature but nature is not my subject. I am interested in the affect that color, line, form, and subject have on emotional feeling. As a result my images can be a realistic representation of a subject or a rather minimalist, even abstract rendering, whatever is most effective in conveying what excited me about the experience or object in my images.
Most of my work is created close to where I live in north-central Pennsylvania. In fact, much of my work now is done on the 7 1/2 acres on which I live. All of my images have been made on the East Coast. I am not interested in representing place, so the geographic location is unimportant to me. I am however, interested in the natural relationships of things in nature. For example, birds within the context of their environment, plants within the context of their habitat, are two ongoing themes. In both cases though, neither the birds nor the plants are what the images are “about”.
I work with a variety of digital cameras having come to the medium from a foundation in film and darkroom print-making. I print now using high-end Epson art printers and pigment-based inks which are archival and offer excellent sharpness and tonal separation. I mat and frame using conservation standard board and glass.
