Karen LaMonte

Karen LaMonte

For the past several years, Karen LaMonte has been living and making her work in the Czech Republic. She went there on a Fulbright grant in 1999-2000, and has remained since. Karen works at the glass casting facility of Zdenek Lhotsky.

Mrs. Brychtova and her father Jaroslav Brychta founded the facility in the 1950’s. It is still used today by Mrs. Brychtova and Professor Libensky to make their monumental architectonic sculpture. Before coming to the Czech Republic, Karen was based in New York City, where, in addition to making her artwork, she was the Director of Education at UrbanGlass.

Karen has also taught at the Parson’s School of Design and worked at the Pilchuck Glass School in Washington State. Karen LaMonte has a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design.
