Kara Raymond Studio
I create & design with Mokume Gane, a 17th-century Japanese technique of fusing, forging, and carving different metals; it offers me a broad creative pallet of patterns and textures. I fuse 22 layers of metal, carve it, and roll all of my own Mokume Gane in the forge in my studio. I carve the more traditional wood patterns as well as my own pattern creations bamboo, rosette, pebble, and others.
I hand design and hand fabricate each of my pieces. I work with Sterling silver, 18 & 22K gold, and copper, then accent using semi precious stones and pearls expanding my color and texture pallet.
Shape, texture, and wearability are key elements in my design. Each piece is different from the next, each with an organic quality balanced with symmetry.
I have been making contemporary classic designs for 20 years. I love the versatility of mother nature in different metals how they shape, form & fuse and the various colors that stones and pearls offer.
