Polash Gomes is an accomplished, professional tabla player, who is considered to be a key player in the bright future of Indian Music in North America. Mr. Gomes is an exponent of the Lucknow Baj, one of the oldest gharanas (school) of tabla. He is a disciple of Sri Mrinal Pal, a senior disciple of late Khalifa Afaq Hussain Khan, the eminent torchbearer of this respected style. In addition, he has received instruction from several other luminaries of tabla including Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri, one of the fines players of this time. Mr. Gomes performs concerts, gives lecture-demonstrations and records throughout the United States. In 1991 he founded the Rageshree Music Institute in an effort to introduce the Art of Northern Indian classical music to the American culture.
