Hands-On Glassmaking
GlassWeekend opens with an opportunity for weekend participants to register for a Hands-On Glassmaking opportunity. “Make Your Own Paperweight” and Sand-Casting have always been options however GlassWeekend ’03 brought with it a new opportunity to “Blow Your Own Vessel.” All participants thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity and each left with their own hand-crafted item.

Two GlassWeekend '03 registered attendees participate in the sand-casting workshop during friday's Hands-On opportunities.  Both are in the process of applying powdered colored glass to their own designs.

FunRaising Auction
The heart behind each GlassWeekend event, the Auction directly benefits the Creative Glass Center of America Fellowship Program, providing working fellowships to twelve individual artists from around the world each year. Additionally, as the event’s co-presenter, the Art Alliance for Contemporary Glass dedicates portions of the proceeds to help fund Museum exhibitions that further the development and appreciation of art made from glass.

The GlassWeekend ‘03 Auction consisted of both work donated graciously from galleries, services items such as a weekend in New York City or Washington D.C., a make your own paperweight session with Paul Stankard. Additionally our hearts go out to all those offerings from long-time CGCA supporters whose donation directly benefits the purchase and/or building of new equipment and those that became life-long friends of CGCA with a Fellowship Sponsor.

20th Anniversary Celebration
In 2003, the CGCA celebrated its 20th Anniversary. In honor of this anniversary the Museum of American Glass organized two CGCA exhibitions during the year. Please contact the Museum Stores if you are interested in purchasing a catalog.

Creative Glass Center of America: 1983-2003 - A retrospective exhibit of every piece from the permanent CGCA collection; works created by the fellowship recipients during their stay at Wheaton Village and donated to the museum. This was the first time the CGCA collection had been exhibited in total and exemplifies the diversity of artists served by this important program over the last twenty years.

20/20 Vision, (6/1/03 – 1/4/04) was a survey of new works by approximately 100 CGCA Fellowship artist alumni. This exhibit was organized by Museum Director, Gay LeCleire Taylor with Guest Curator Susanne K. Frantz. The exhibit was an opportunity for past fellows to show their current work. To mount this show the glass from the museum’s large New Jersey room exhibit space was removed and the area was redesigned to accommodate the work. There was an artists reception in the exhibition space during GlassWeekend '03, on July 12.
