Program
Each GlassWeekend gives participants the opportunity to not only watch demonstrations by our guest artists but also to view slides and listen to each artist discuss their individual inspirations and work.

Former Fellow, Lisabeth Sterling (1994) demonstrates her glass engraving technique.

Panels particular to GlassWeekend ’03 included:

  1. The American/Czech Glass Connection: a panel of artists, educators and other participants who have been active in both countries discussed the cross-influence on glass art in these two leading centers of contemporary glass.
  2. *Curators Panel – The Curators Match: Moderator Tina Oldknow (Curator, Corning Museum of Glass) selected slides of major glass works of art and asked the panel of museum curators to choose a work of art from his or her museum in any medium to be a “companion” for display purposes. The curators showed side-by-side slides of the two works and explained the reason for the selection.
  3. Special Artist Presentation – Inside the Head of Hank Murta Adams: Ruminations and Illuminations
  4. CGCA Artist Panel: Past fellows discussed the impact of their time spent at Wheaton on their development as artists.
  5. *Curator Walks: Participants interacted with individual museum curators who led small groups of collectors through the gallery exhibition and museum exhibitions.
  6. Regional Collector’s Group Panel: The leaders of the ten regional collector’s groups spoke about the benefits, programs and networking opportunities available for collectors.
  7. “Spotlight on lighting” and “Put it on a Pedestal”: Representatives from Erco Lighting and Geminart Pedestals spoke to participants about their companies products and suggestions for setting-up work within your own home.

*Curators Program
A huge educational asset to GlassWeekend is the Curators Program started in 1993. Since that time, 46 Museum curators and directors have attended GlassWeekend as guests; most all have participated in the panels and breakout sessions with glowing praise from past GlassWeekenders. The curators themselves have also thoroughly enjoyed themselves, the program, demonstrations and connections to glass artists and collectors.
