Edison Osorio-Zapata

Edison Osorio-Zapata, Japan

Born in Venezuela to Colombian migrants, Edison spent most of his youth in Australia where he trained in the culinary arts. This skill took him to Japan where he opened a restaurant in Tokyo.

In Japan he gained an interest in art and pottery. He returned to Australia where he graduated from the Canberra School of Arts with a glass major. In 2004 he received a Japanese government scholarship and completed a Master of Fine Art at Tama Art University, Tokyo in 2007.

Edison is currently undertaking a special research position at Nagoya University of Art in Japan. He's been investigating culture and language producing objects and installations, which explore the mechanics of printing from glass onto different materials, as well as using glass to harness and distort imagery.
