2009 Events
Jane Kirkland is an award-winning author dedicated to educating our children on the nature that surrounds us such as the birds, trees, butterflies, and dragonflies we can find in our own backyards, school-yards, and local parks. She works tirelessly, speaking at schools, conferences, and events all over the US. She keynoted at the Pennsylvania's Governor's Institute for Environmental Educators in 2005, was featured at Disney's Epcot Center, at the Urban Ecology Center in Milwaukee, and many National Wildlife Refuges, parks, and events with environmentally concerned organizations.
Lance Simmens has spent the last three decades involved in a variety of public policy
issues. In 1993 he helped establish the first Federal Office of Sustainable Development
in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. In 1995 he received the
highest honorary award from the U.S. Department of Commerce for his pioneering
work in sustainable fisheries in New England and the Pacific Northwest.
He currently serves as Special Assistant for Intergovernmental Affairs
to Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell, acting as liaison to local governments and
local elected officials. In this capacity he also serves as the Governor’s
point person on the development of wind and solar energy and he recently
received a Green Power Leadership award from Citizen’s for Pennsylvania’s
Future.
