Vetro Sensazionale: Italian Masters Session 2010
This special opportunity for experienced (and juried) glassblowers is to be taught by legendary Italian Maestro, Pino Signoretto and several of his accomplished devotees. Michael Schunke, noted American glass artist and colleagues will begin teaching the class to get everyone ready for the second week with Pino. Daily demonstrations by this team of instructors will focus on technique and aesthetics.

Pino Signoretto is highly regarded and sought after as an artist and teacher alike both in Murano, Italy and worldwide. He began working in glass in 1954 and trained with the great Venetian masters Alfredo Barbini, Ermanno Nason, and Angelo and Livio Seguso. In 1960 Signoretto was named a Maestro and has remained active with his own studio since 1978.  He has taught at many institutions internationally and collaborated and worked with a variety of artists and architects such as Koons, Smith, Pomodoro, Chihuly and Dali. His knowledge of the medium is legendary, having worked extensively on many commissions, projects and his own work.  Signoretto’s sculptural work is shown in exhibitions and museums worldwide. This will be his first visit to WheatonArts and should not to be missed.

Michael Schunke has been working with glass since 1988. He is a graduate of the Tyler School of Art and has studied or taught at many prestigious institutions such as Haystack, Pilchuck, and the Rhode Island School of Design. In 1998 he was awarded a Visiting Professorship at the Toyama Institute of Glass in Toyama, Japan. He is an accomplished and highly skilled artist intimately familiar with Venetian style glassblowing and honored to assist teaching with Pino Signoretto. Schunke is a very generous and committed instructor who has much experience to share.  He owns and operates Nine Iron Studios in West Grove, PA where he works on privately commissioned works and his own sculptural pieces.
