Susan Morgan

Susan Duffield Morgan has lived all her life in Richwood, NJ. Her ancestors lived in and around Gloucester County for generations. On her father’s side were farmers, working the land. On her mother’s side, far back, were glassblowers. The Stangers built the first glass factory in the area now known as Glassboro in approximately 1779. Susan had seen the glass and heard the Stanger story all her life.

Susan took a class in stained glass in 1984. She found that she loved to cut and solder the glass to make custom windows, lamps and much more. Then in 1991 she took a lampworking class at Salem County Community College. She found that lampworking opened a whole new world for her. Learning to melt, twist and shape the glass seemed to be her heritage. She was then able to combine lampworking and slumping with her knowledge of stained glass.

In some of her pieces you may see the sand from her backyard that enticed the Stanger Brothers to stay in southern New Jersey. This experience has allowed her to continue the glass tradition that is in her blood. This is both a thrill and an honor.
