Staff Biographies
Pat Howe (Retired)
Pat A. Howe has been demonstrating and narrating glassmaking at Wheaton
Village since 1989. Since 2000, Pat has been the Coordinator of the
“Make Your Own” Programs. These hands-on programs are offered to the
adult public and allow participants to experience first hand the hot
glass techniques demonstrated in the studio. The programs include
creating a paperweight or blowing a bowl or vase.
Pat’s own work includes a variety of blown pieces and solid sculptures including paperweights. Each piece is uniquely handmade; many reflect the beach and dunes of the Jersey Shore where she resides.
“As a self-taught artist, I have never had the restrictions of only one method of working. I have been free to experiment in this most fascinatingly creative and expressive medium. While creating my own pieces remains the most fulfilling, running a close second is sharing this fabulous material with others. Whether it is with an adult making a paperweight or a child blowing a glass bubble, being a part of their experience allows me to experience glass for the first time, again and again. Watching eyes open wide with wonderment makes my day.”
