Ed Newell

Ed Newell has been with WheatonArts (known at the time as Wheaton Village) since 1968.

His story begins with the very foundation of the buildings. Newell began as a carpenter and worked with a team of about eight others to build the glass studio, museum and other structures that still exist today at WheatonArts.

He has always loved working with his hands and particulary working with wood. Newell was taught carving by Jim Seaburt and in 1986 was hired as a demonstrating carpenter. Most of his work is carved from peach pits, hickory nuts and English walnuts. Ed primarily carves animals and figurines. He is well known for his carving of Noah’s Ark with over 56 pairs of animals.

Ed comments that he loves his wife, her cooking and fishing on the Jersey shore. He and his wife raised seven children.
